Yesterday the government presented its spring budget amendment. After months of crisis in the construction industry, demonstrations outside parliament and politicians who say they understand the seriousness, it is clear that the construction sector will continue to have to fend for itself through the worst construction crisis since the 90s. This means that 200,000 young people who cannot move away from home will have to wait a few more years as things stand. At the same time, the temporary supplement to the housing allowance for families with children is extended - for the seventh time.
- I don't understand what the government wants to happen. Housing construction has crashed and company after company in the construction industry is going bankrupt. This trend will not reverse itself for several years, but requires the state to step in with crisis policy and support housing construction. This requires guarantees, subsidies and a housing minister who understands the problem. But if you are satisfied with the fact that there is no construction and that unemployment is increasing among construction workers, then it is a perfect policy," says Alexander Wilson van Deurs, chairman of jagvillhabostad.nu.
In its budget, the government chooses to continue extending the temporary supplement in the housing allowance for families with children, which is for the seventh time since it was introduced during the pandemic.
- The surcharge was introduced at a time of rising costs and economic turmoil. Now that it has been temporarily increased for the seventh time, we can all agree that it needs to be made permanent, as prices are unlikely to fall. But why only for families with children? Young professionals and students are feeling the economic downturn just as hard and also need a higher housing allowance. Raise it permanently for everyone," says Alexander Wilson van Deurs, President of jagvillhabostad.nu.
